Destinations That Won't Break the Bank

Travel should not be reserved only for the rich. Conde Nast suggests some destinations for 2018 that feature reasonable airfare and lodging as well as plenty to do:

Guadalajara, Mexico. First, this second-largest city in Mexico (photo) is the birthplace of tequila. It also boasts the largest indoor market in Latin America and a lively dining and entertainment scene, much of it within the beautiful and historic Colonia Lafayette district.

Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The big draw here is the Calgary Stampede, one of the largest rodeos in the world, held every July. But if bulls and broncs and cowboys aren’t your cup of tea, there are lots of opportunities for outdoor adventure, as well as many cultural and entertainment options.

Orlando, Fla. It is not cheap to visit the kingdom of Mickey Mouse. However, you can get good deals on airfare and hotels. And timing your trip can save you even more; for example, prices are usually lowest in January.

Raleigh, N.C. The capital of North Carolina has plenty to offer in terms of dining, brew pubs, museums and more.

Denver. You can enjoy the Rocky Mountains just outside Denver any time of year, and winter offers some of the greatest skiing and snowboarding in the world. Denver itself has plenty of dining and entertainment options, cultural attractions and sports venues.

Fort Myers, Fla. The main attractions here are beaches and sunshine – not just in Fort Myers, but also in nearby Sanibel and Captiva islands. And of course, there is golf.

Tampa, Fla. Visit the Florida Aquarium. Or take a day trip to Walt Disney World or St. Petersburg, which are only about an hour away.

Salt Lake City, Utah. You can ski in the winter or enjoy the beautiful scenery and outdoor adventures when the slopes are closed. Plus, there are lots of entertainment and cultural opportunities in the state capital.

Minneapolis. If sports are your thing, check out the new home of the Vikings and the relatively new home of the Twins. For shopping, the Mall of America offers everything you might need. And there are amazing parks and recreational activities, as well as a museum dedicated to Prince.

Baltimore The Inner Harbor, Camden Yards and the National Aquarium are great locations to visit. Or just meander through the city’s neighborhoods or check out the nearby Guinness brewery, the first U.S. brewery opened by the legendary Dublin brewer since the 1950s.
